The Zambian currency is the Kwacha (ZMW). It is important to be aware of the current exchange rate and to have access to local currency. You can change your money at the airport in any Bureau de Change because foreign currency is not used in making transactions in Zambia.

Staying in neighborhoods near Lusaka CBD is very expensive and there are high crime rates but areas far from town are safe. Places to consider are Chudleigh, woodlands ,Kabulonga,mass media, Longacres, ibex and Olympia.
Electricity is a challenge be prepared to buy a solar system to be safe or when looking for a place to stay make sure it has solar installed and gas. People mostly use gas and charcoal and electricity when it is available.
Health
Malaria is a risk in Zambia, so it is important to take precautions such as using mosquito repellent and sleeping under a mosquito net. You should also consult your doctor about other recommended vaccinations and health precautions.
In rain season there is cholera, always ensure that you do not buy food from the streets and if at all you buy food from the street wash it thoroughly.
Transportation
Zambia has public transport that transport people from one place to another at a fee. This includes mini and big buses. There are different taxies that can booked at a very affordable fee like Yango, bolt and ulendo.The road network in Zambia can be challenging, especially in rural areas. Many roads are unpaved and can be difficult to navigate during the rainy season. If you plan to drive, it is recommended to have a 4×4 vehicle.

The cost of living in Zambia can vary depending on your lifestyle and location. In general, it is more expensive to live in urban areas than in rural areas. Fruit and vegetables are cheaper in markets like Soweto market than in big super markets.
Groceries are cheaper in ShopRite and bulk buying in Kamwala.
